stuck at level 140-something while the rest of us are at 255. Well, I followed her around in Magma Dungeon (and later gld_dun04 and abbey_03, etc) and buffed/healed her so she could level a bit faster, and she's about 180 now. Yay!~ Still not sure where she should actually be going for good exp...*looks at others*
Also, me and Natalie were on earlier today and just ended up meeting in town and chatting about random stuff (RPGs, CS courses, jobs, my lack of self-restraint, etc.). Fun times...
Also, when I was at magma dungeon with Colleen some random Sin came up to whack on me a bunch:
He couldn't really touch me tho; I was healing way too fast. I was mostly just confused as to what he wanted. Then he asked for buffs, then attacked me -again-, then started killing monsters. weird people...-_-;

It occurred to me today that while in general we'd probably say something like "games aren't inherently bad--if people get mindlessly addicted to them, it's their own fault for not having self-control"...but in my case it's more like I play games nonstop and have no self-restraint, but end up suffering no ill consequences...=X

Massive post, with lots of screenies! =D
So, yesterday (Tuesday) we met in class for a little bit and discussed some plans and such, but didn't really have much time to play as both me and Colleen had to leave. Our plan instead was to meet back online at around 11:00 or so.
Unfortunately due to some bad timing, I ended up not really being able to log on until closer to around midnight, but all was well and I met up with Colleen, Natalie, and Kotaro in game (Michelle was MIA for the night =/).
Here's all 4 of us. From left to right: Kotaro's knight (notice the freaky headgear), me as high priest, Natalie as a wizard, and Colleen's hunter.
After running around and buffing colleen while she leveled for a bit, we met up with Natalie and went to one of the MvP rooms, I think in search of a Ribbon (so I could look cute =D).
We met this guy named "Bendalene" who apparently is from Singapore and doesn't play with other singapore people. *shrug* I think this was the first person I charmed with my oh-so-cute character and giving him buffs. He was lvl 255 so he was tearing through the monsters pretty quickly, and just randomly came up and asked us where we were from. After answering "USA" he just said "wow" and then said he was from singapore, etc etc. Then he gave me an Angel Wing, haha. And told us we should go to pront dungeon for ribbon[1] (which makes sense, I vaguely remember getting one there when I played RO before).
So then I had my cute ribbon!~ And slotted it with a Mistress card from Natalie so now I can cast ME/Safety Wall/etc without any catalysts. Yay! I remember not really liking the ribbon quite that much when I played RO before, but I actually am kind of fond of its look now. (of course, I always prioritize cuteness over stats when picking out equips ^^;) This Bendalene guy also friended me, apparently.
Meanwhile Taro was off doing his own thing...and we didn't really know where he was. He was using beserk all the time, which meant he couldn't chat with us, so that caused a bunch of 9_9 from us.
Astarael: Whack that thing, Timmie
DDRKirby(ISQ): that's what she said
FireJade: dang you
We also had an "I lost" moment happen earlier ^^;
More running around buffing Colleen to help her level. I'm really liking my role as a priest--supporting people is really fun! It -does- get slightly monotonous sometimes since you're not killing anything, and since you're just casing the same buffs over and over again...but eh, it's fine.
The top of Morocc has become our informal meetup place, for some reason or other. We also had some interesting issues, with Natalie and me not being able to trade for some reason (I think it was just because we were too far away from each other at the time), and also for some reason the spam filter doesn't allow you to say "olol". -_-;
Eventually Taro told us what he had been looking for (some card drop i think?) and Natalie went to help him out. Naturally, Natalie ended up getting the drop after her first kill xD...
Eventually Colleen called it a night, and Natalie and Taro found a Valkyrie, so we met up and formulated a plan to take it down...
Random: I thought the Angel Wing looked kind of cute, but it jutted out a little too much and was too flashy to fit the rest of my image. Plus I wanted the Ribbon (the Mistress card was useful anyways).
We managed to kill the Valkyrie without too many problems =D. Though, I don't think it ended up dropping whatever it was that we wanted. The actual boss that would have that drop apparently summons Valkyries as slaves T_T
We kept running into the "orcface" problem on certain maps, which was really annoying since we didn't know how to cure it, other than just running into a mob and dying and respawning xD. Taro looks hilarious here though.
One thing about RO is that if you go to a crowded area like Pront, you always see all these other chars and they have such flashy and flamboyant avatars; it's a real stark contrast from the simple look that I always went for. In a way it's slightly intimidating for newer players to start off and see these people walking around with huge gargoyle wings or whatever. I guess that also makes the newbies easier to pick out...
xD
At this point we just started looking for accessories. The lower angel wing ears, added to the regular angel wing, was really weird since you have 4 different wings on your head xD
I really liked them though. <3~ They complemented my look perfectly, and matched the cuteness of my outfit while still retaining the simplicity. Hooray~
/ho became my most used emote. And, as Natalie is pointing out here, I was kind of a people magnet since I would just buff random people sometimes (though, other times they came up to me and asked). One of them gave me a horn card too, haha. They probably think I'm some cute girl...=X But, I guess that's sort of the point. Being able to have an image like this is one of the main reasons I have so much fun in RO in the first place! ^_^
Also note the chat filter message when you try to type "lolol": "Yeah, uh, I don't think so buddy..." o_o;
I went to Abbey Dungeon and ME bombed for a while until I was at level 221 or something, so that I would be able to share experience with Natalie and Kotaro. At one point Kotaro helped by just aggroing a bunch of mobs and then bringing them back to my ME bombs xD.
After that we went to Thor Volcano Dungeon for a while, to level, and because I think because Kotaro wanted to look for Ifrit. We never found him, but we did manage to go through the entire map =D. We didn't have too many problems either, except for a few times when we got caught off guard. The first time I was actually alone IDing some items when some monsters mobbed me. I frantically teleported to some random location where a hunter proceeded to finish me off (I was only at like 10% hp anyways xD). There was also a time when a Sage came at a bad time and got me and Taro pretty quickly.
After finishing, we were all lvl 255, so yay us. Interactions with other PCs (player-characters) have been interesting I guess. Most of the time when I run into them as I'm soloing I just give them a quick buff as they run along their way. Well, except in Abbey, where I just cast another ME bomb and then teleport away xD. There was one point where Kotaro (?) randomly attacked some hunter who happened to also be in the dungeon with us. And I remember Natalie tried to Storm Gust me once, haha...
After that Taro went and...did his own thing for a while again. Meanwhile I was with Natalie, who had gotten a pair of Arctic wings and was looking through different clothing styles. I went through different styles briefly as well, but honestly don't think I could find anything I liked more than my current look.
And, at this point Taro realized that it was almost 5 -_-;
More messing around in Pront. I think this stemmed from when I pointed out that Natalie and I contrasted nicely with the Blue vs Red color schemes.
Astarael: Taro be the priest XD
Void_Eternal: o.O
Astarael: ... wow role reversal
We -do- kind of look nice together. Natalie pointed out that I need flame wings though xD.
Though, we had some issues with Natalie's wings chopping through my forehead. Owww...
Eventually we stopped goofing around and called it a night. We ended going to bed way too late, but I don't really regret it--this was the first time I had a real group to play an MMORPG with anyhow, so it was really nice. And I can't stop feeling happy about how cute my character looks <3~
Our presentation is...uhm...tomorrow -_-, so I'm not sure how much more we'll be able to do between now and then. Perhaps we'll actually get to see Michelle in game, or finish leveling Colleen...or maybe kick ass in some WoE fight =X. Natalie and me also randomly got invited to join a guild, but they just ended up spamming a bunch of nonenglish messages in guild chat, haha...
Most (?) of us have expressed some sort of interest in continuing with RO after our project is done, most likely on a different server that's not as high rate, and where less people speak weird languages xD. I'd definitely be down; I always manage to "generate" enough time to have on my hands to do all these kinds of things anyways...

Ok, so Magnus Exorcismus is basically AoE rape for all demon/undead monsters. I was having a bit of trouble since my dex wasn't nearly high enough for instant cast, but I managed by spamming Kyrie Elison (the barrier spell). Now i've got instant cast and I'm lvl 184 (jlvl 100) and just teleporting around abbey03 nuking necromancers. yay...

High Priest! You know, I'm actually really happy with this look; I think it's much better than the regular Priest outfit. I'm contemplating going to the Stylist NPC later to experiment with some different clothing palletes, but to be honest, this looks really nice already ^^;
We're scheduled for a play session around 11:00 ish. don't know how much time I'll have to play between now and then, but I'll try and catch up a little.

Why I'm a support priest

In the past I've been one for dps characters (mage, archer), but I'm building a support priest now because A) it fits my persona very well and B) we actually have a group, so I actually have people to support.
My enneagram type is a number 2, and this page describes me almost frighteningly well. So really it all fits quite well. And I have a female avatar, of -course-, because it helps me feel closer to my cutesy girly "ideal" that is impossible for me to attain in real life.
===
With that out of the way, a slight progress update:
We got Colleen (ign FireJade) successfully patched up and started, so Michelle and Kotaro helped her figure out the basics of where to go; how to level/change jobs/etc. Meanwhile I followed along casting a crapton of different buffs on her and healing her for 2100 HP (her base at the time was probably something like 100). Kotaro + Natalie were still having troubles with their installs last I checked, but me and Colleen have both transcended now. I'm currently a high acolyte, so I get to look pretty again for now, until I get to high priest...>_>

Finally got the game working, and partied with 'Chelle to whack little sprites into submission.
Wow, everything is so nostalgic. Except...not. In a weird way. When I played a few years ago, the server I was on had chosen to go pretty hardcore: warping required the actual item, exp and drop rates were 1x or something extremely low, etc. So it seems really, really strange to be blazing through dungeons that I once spent hours in.
One thing's completely new, though: PKing. I tend to play non-PK servers, since I'm too lazy/not hardcore enough to grind forever for a good PvP build...but at heart I'm a PKKer.
Too bad we couldn't find the 'sader that backstabbed 'Chelle and me. Little bugger waited until we were surrounded by monsters, then darted in, killed us both, and left. I got a few spells off, despite being ridiculously underleveled, but didn't do much damage. Also didn't manage to catch the guy's name, more's the pity.
Can't wait to make use of the 8000x rate to try my hand at PKKing. *cracks knuckles*
...But at the same time I really need to not get sucked into this game again. Self, repeat: it's 2 AM go to sleep it's 2 AM go to sleep it's 2 AM go to sleep.
Edit: Was up 'till 5 or 6; my character is now a level 207ish High Wizard. Sigh. Lrn2selfcontrol.

Quick Suggestions for the following classes:

Okay, so I didn't realize how long that last post was. Whoops. Anyway, hopefully this one isn't too tl;dr for you all.
QUICK TIPS: For leveling on other classes
* Acolyte classes! You guys are truly blessed in terms of leveling early on. Once you get Heal on your skills set, you can "Heal Bomb" just about everything in Payon Dungeon. So, type in "/ns" for no shift targeting (otherwise you have to hold the shift button in order to target players and some monsters when you want to "heal"). Get your level 10 Heal out and spam that sucker on those undead monsters!
Once it gets slow in Payon Dungeon head over to Amatsu Dungeon (@warp ama_dun01) and Heal Bomb those Antique Firelocks for a while. When it starts to feel like a grind head over to "@warp in_sphinx4" and "@warp in_sphinx5" and look for Anubis (he's huge you can't miss him.) Heal Bomb him for a while, switching between the two maps because there are only 15 and 10 of each for both maps.
Eventually, it may get too slow there too, so you can access the guild dungeon with "@warp gld_dun04 " and start heal bombing in there too. At this point, you want to work on getting ME (Magnus Exorcismus) and spamming that inside the guild dungeon. It's pretty much your best friend in later levels.
I'd also recommend you build your stats around dex (till about 150 dex), int (go all the way to 255!), and some agi (70 is decent...) to avoid dying in mobs. Vit is also a good idea to put in since you don't want to get stunned a crap load, but I find you can live without it for early leveling purposes.
* Mages play almost the same way, but instead of Heal Bombing you have a whole other arsenal of attacks on your side. You can pretty much follow my leveling process through thieves on the previous post. Just remember to pump into about 150 dex (or until instant cast) and everything into int. Put some vit and agi in so you don't die due to getting stunned or what have you, but don't make those your main focus I'd say 70 is a good start, and after that focus on getting your dex at instant cast and your int maxed. Lucky for you, you get all those fancy AoE spells. So, you can mob like no tomorrow in HD3 and Magma dungeon 2.

Will update with more classes if necessary. Feel free to comment below if you want more details, etc.

Speed Leveling~!
Posted by
MichelleDR
at
9:24 AM
So, I wish I had images to accompany my leveling, but I don't - mostly because I was still testing the server really quick to make sure it was worth our group's time. As such, I usually speed run/level in a few hours to confirm the environment is still familiar enough to my past RO server experiences.
Most RO private servers rearrange NPCs and even recreate maps, so it's necessary to be familiar with as many different types as possible if you want to jump right into the game and forget the time spent on familiarizing yourself with a particular community's set up.
Of course, this is being said by a person who prefers to PKK (Player Kill Kill). If to PK is to kill another player (hence Player Kill), then to PKK is to kill those players who kill other players. I guess in some respects you can call me somewhat of a vigilante, but I don't actively seek out people who kill other people on my own accord (I only do so when asked by another person). Usually, I wait for someone to attack me and then I kill them. But I think that can be mostly called defense, ha ha!
Anyway, enough about the background, here's my process for speed leveling in a high rate RO server environment:
The specs for this server state it's 8k/8k/10%card drop and 80%items. This basically translates to 8000x more base exp than the official RO server/8000x more job exp than the official RO server/10% increased chance to receive a card (a very rare and useful item in most servers)/80% increased chance to receive regular "drops" or other items monsters/enemies fork over when you massacre them.
What's this mean?
Means I can go kill a hapless pink blob of a Poring and get myself 30 levels in one go.
So, I warped to HD (Hidden Dungeon) using my @warp command because I'm lazy to walk there. "@warp prt_maze01" please! This teleports me to some random location inside the map Prontera Maze01, which basically means Hidden Dungeon first floor.
This method of warping means I probably ended up somewhere I don't really want to be exactly but I'm in the right map. From here, I press up on my keyboard and enter to re-enter the warping code into my text box. Voila, instant fly wing (A fly wing is an item that randomly teleports players about the map they're currently on)!
Okay, now there's the poring room. What do I do? I stab it with my puny knife.
*ensuing fanfare to congratulate my 30 levels increase*
Just as I warped to HD, I'm going to warp back to Morroc (Prontera's too busy for my liking). So, I use another command @go to teleport back to town. "@go 1" go~!
Now I'm in Morroc - Home of the Thieves and one of my favorite locations because of the close by NPC vendors and nice desert scenery. This varies from server to server, but this server happens to have a "Job Master" NPC next to my warp who serves to turn your character into whatever character class (knight, mage, priest, etc.) you want by removing the regular process of completing additional quests to unlock these advancements. So, I click on the lovely lady, tell her I want to be a thief, and off I go once more to HD.
Repeat above process till I hit job level 50. Return back to Morroc, ask the Job Master to turn me into a Rogue because going Assassin is weak and uninteresting (okay, I lied, it's kind of cool, but almost every server is full of Sins! So, I want to avoid that and be "unique").
At this point though, I'm probably level 60 or 70 and I still need 39 or 29 more levels to go before I can reborn (which is a term we use to mean transcend to higher classes and better stats; essentially, it forces you to redo the whole Novie->Thief scenario, but instead of becoming a Rogue at the end you become a STALKER!). Anyway, HD is too slow unless you're an AOE character and can kick ass at HD3. So, off I warp to Payon Dungeon to kill some Sohees, poor dears.
@warp pay_dun03!
Sohees are basically these floating ghost girls. They're really cute actually, but I must kill them to level up! So, I equip some wind arrows and let the barrage of pointy objects descend on the poor girls.
Level 99? Check. cool, reborn time. Repeat basically the entire process above until you hit Stalker mode~! Then continue leveling to the max at 255 (254 on some high rate servers, but it really fluctuates on preference of the GMs). You'll have to check out other maps because these mentioned maps will be too slow for you. Around level 150, I start looking for a mage to SG (Storm Gust) me and then steal that power to run around rampant in Magma Dungeon, summoning snow all over those fire creatures. Light Halzen is another very good choice for bow leveling, but in this particular server, I noticed the GMs restricted access to the creepy biolab. So, that's out of the question for now...
----
I guess I should state here that the @ commands are actually GM (Game Master) commands that aren't normally available to the common player. However, in this server, they are. So, damn right, I abuse them because it makes leveling so much faster.
Also, I neglected to mention my skill point and stat point distribution. For thieves, this is my usual formula for leveling purposes only:
Novie (9 dex/9 str/ 9 agi) -> after that first poring, I start pumping into dex and agi with short cut commands of "/dex+ 100" and "/agi+ 100." Note there is a space between the + and the number. This just speeds up the time to distribute your stat points, otherwise you'd sit there clicking each button manually on your stat window (accessible through alt+a).
Thief -> pump in more dex and agi, and if you can get a bow. If not, put some points into str to do more damage with a knife. Bows are pretty easy to come by if you warp to Payon Dungeon and kill an archer skeleton there, looting its body afterward. The increased dex allows you to hit enemies more regularly (think of it like accuracy) and also decreases the amount of delay spent for casting spells/skills. The agi is put there so you can avoid getting killed when a gang of two monsters jumps you. I usually have about 100 agi and then I go pure dex to maximize my damage with the bow. So, play around with it as you go. It won't matter much in a high rate because you're still leveling quickly. Until you hit about 200, then respecing your stats might need to occur to make you more efficient.
Stalker -> same deal with this class as the thief class. Go for dex, agi, and maybe even some vit to increase your hp. For the most part, however, you should be bow-style and DSing (Double Straffeing) the enemies. You could go dagger style, but I find that to be much more risky since you have to go closer to the enemy and manage three different stats (str, dex, agi) as opposed to just two (dex and agi) with the bow mode.
Each class plays a bit differently, but I can tell you the general leveling up maps formula is something like this:
*HD (kill porings and other things if possible)
*Payon Dungeon (kill skeletons on each floor until you get to Sohees. If you can get wind damage on them, great. But you'll probably be moving onto the next map when leveling here gets slow)
*Amatsu Dungeon (kill the Antique Firelocks and Miyabi things. I'd avoid the Shinobi if you don't have any/much Agi. You might have difficulties)
*Turtle Dungeon (kill turtles!) /HD level 3 (AoE things here. Watch out for other players who might try to PK you since it's a popular spot!)
*Magma Dungeon (kill fire things!)
*Light Halzen Bio Labs (not available easily on this server. =().
But, yeah, that's about it. Let me know if you have questions about anything. I kind of just spilled whatever I could think of on my mind!
Most RO private servers rearrange NPCs and even recreate maps, so it's necessary to be familiar with as many different types as possible if you want to jump right into the game and forget the time spent on familiarizing yourself with a particular community's set up.

@warp pay_dun03!
